Knife set

A wedding gift for Reese and Mickala. A second-hand Henckels block set was taken apart and every knife given a new handle, each one topped with the head of one of eight of us: me, Jack, Case, Eli, Josh, Timothy, Liam and Kurtis.

Each of us was 3D scanned. The scanned heads were cleaned up and smoothed, then joined to newly modelled handles with lofts so the head and grip read as one form. Everyone's own signature was traced and set into the side of their handle.

The handles were printed in ABS, acetone smoothed to a gloss and riveted onto the original blades. A plaque with the couple's initials finishes the block.

I did the 3D scanning, slicing and some of the smoothing. Eli Crawford did much of the design, printing and smoothing. We both worked in Blender, and the ideas went back and forth throughout.
