One piece of equipment that affords both seating and listening, without compromise.

A continuously bent two-inch brushed stainless steel tube forms the frame. The cushions are large, blocky and built for comfort. The neckrest carries the speakers at ear height, while the backrest accommodates the subwoofer, aimed at your lower back.

Every driver fires through the upholstery. Ultrafabrics Brisa is extremely close to fully transparent to sound, so foam and fabric sit in front of the drivers without muffling them. The backrest is the subwoofer enclosure, affording nearly one cubic foot of internal volume to house an eight-inch bass driver. The neckrest holds two four-inch full-range drivers aimed slightly off-axis toward the listener.

The amplifier sits in an actively cooled box inside the seat cushion, and can be adjusted via a control panel on the side of the cushion. One knob for power and volume and one for bass. Getting those controls off the board and into the chair was the hardest part of the build.

Proportions were set from Henry Dreyfuss’s The Measure of Man and a study of classic lounge chairs. Around ninety-eight pounds, thirty-four hundred dollars in material and five to eight hundred hours. Second place at the Humber ID Chair Show.
